Government Calls For Local Tech Capacity

Government has urged technology partnerships that build local capacity and ensure investments generate lasting value for Zambia, during a meeting with a high‑level Hikvision delegation led by President Xu Peng.
Ministry of Technology and Science Permanent Secretary Brilliant Habeenzu, represented by Director Bwanga Mbula, said Zambia seeks skills and technology transfer, not just purchases. He noted mobile subscriptions rose to over 26 million, internet penetration reached 72 percent, and fibre‑optic coverage expanded to 42,000 kilometres between 2021 and 2025.
Dr. Habeenzu stressed that partnerships must deliver skills, jobs and transparency. He commended Avit Information Technology Limited for enabling collaboration with international firms.
Avit CEO Jacob Lubasi said digital evolution and artificial intelligence will be key to Zambia’s 2026-2032 development agenda.
